The history of the museum (Musée des beaux arts) goes back to 1794 when (confiscated) works of arts from churches, abbeys and individuals were collected. In 1801, the museum received thirty paintings from the Muséum Central, the future Louvre. The collection encompasses many paintings from the 14th-20th centuries, ceramic, sculpture, fine arts and furniture nowadays.
