The Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt refers to a group of artists as well as to the buildings in which these artists lived and worked from the beginning of the twentieth century. The artists were largely financed by patrons and worked together with other members of the group who ideally had concordant artistic tastes. Today it is a museum committed to exhibit works of modern art. Works of painters, architects, sculptors and other artists covering styles from the beginning of the twentieth century are displayed and discussed.
