De benedictijnse abdij is in 1330 gesticht door de Hertog van Beieren en Keizer van het Heilige Roomse Rijk Lodewijk IV. Het abdij is in de loop der eeuwen uitgegroeid tot een kasteelachtig complex met vele gebouwen, waar nog steeds economische activiteiten plaatsvinden. Ook organiseert de abdij met enige regelmaat tentoonstellingen.

Eutin was a residence of the Duke of Oldenburg and the museum at the castle focuses on this history and in the time of Goethe.

The castle (Schloss Eutin) once belonged tot he dukes of Oldenburg and is a cultural historical museum nowadays, presenting the history of the Oldenburg dynasty until 1918.  

The gallery (Galerie der Stadt Fellbach) presents contemporary art.
