The Trophy of Augustus

The Trophy of Augustus (Emperor August), Trophée des Alpes, also known as trophée d’Auguste,  was built in 6 BC in honour of Emperor Augustus, following the subjugation of the Alpine Celtic tribes in eastern France, Switzerland and the North of Italy. Erected at the frontier between Gaul and Italy, it proclaimed the unity and power of the Roman Empire.
