German Textile Museum

The German textile museum (Deutsches textilmuseum) accommodates almost 30 000 textiles produced over a period of more than 2 000 years. A good number of the treasurers contained in the collection stem from the production of silk and velvet. The museum does not have a permanent display collection which is accessible to visitors, due to the necessary storage of the highly sensitive materials and their colours in an air conditioned archive. The collection covers a wide spectrum off different types, sometimes only in the shape of fragmentary examples. Changing exhibitions provide an insight into the variety of the collection and the splendid textiles from all over the world.
