Museum of Eugene Delacroix

The collection of the Museum (Musée Eugène Delacroix) contains works from nearly every phase of Delacroix’s career, covering many of his themes. The museum also boasts the artist’s only three attempts at fresco. The collection of drawings consists primarily of studies for paintings now in the museum and his last decorative projects. It also includes drawings by some of Delacroix’s friends and colleagues. In addition to the so-called interpretative prints, there is also a small number of works representing Delacroix or a member of his entourage. During Delacroix’s trip to Morocco in 1832, he was so captivated with the country that he made numerous notes and sketches, and also purchased many objects. The inventory drawn up after his death provides a glimpse of the clothing and accessories he brought back from Morocco.
