The Museum is one of the largest German regional museums of art and cultural history.It presents the historical development of the Elbe region around Altona, Schleswig Holstein and the coastal areas of North and Baltic Sea. The permanent exhibition shows the most important regional works of art from painting and graphics, arts and crafts, cultural history to fishing and shipping. The varied program of special exhibitions cover film and lecture events on topics from the 19th and 20th centuries.
