Rutte, NATO, European Activism and Opportunism

The (former) Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, apparently has a good chance of becoming the next Secretary-General of NATO. However, someone other than Rutte is the right person to lead this organisation.

He is a poor and highly nonchalant manager of his government (he has had many in 13 years). He has a lousy record in appointing ministers and EU officials; he has neither led nor governed but mostly reacted, always cowardly and only when he had to, leaving his country in chaos. This petit méchant could not care less.

And he is especially not a source of inspiration, or, in his own words,” I have no vision, then go to the eye doctor.” However, he has an excellent quality: he is a survivor, opportunist, PR manager for his reputation, and a great flatterer with those he considers crucial for his position and reputation.

NATO needs a heavyweight, someone like David Cameron or Donald Tusk, for example, and not a ”Yes Minister” charlatan and opportunist.

In 13 years, he has systematically ignored and brutalised NATO commitments and dismantled the army, air force and navy. He never showed interest in the Middle East, to present himself there now for opportunistic motives.

He supported Putin until 24 February 2022, despite the invasion of Ukraine and MH17 in 2014. And above all, he has turned the VVD, his party, into a soulless party of opportunists and job hunters. Dutch citizens are fed up with his pathetic presentations and opportunism. He did not handle one single issue adequately.

He longed for a European top job for a long time, which is why he was also called the ´valet of Merkel ´ and her many disastrous policies. He wants the NATO job now and started his PR campaign at the country’s expense in his capacity as prime minister. He couldn´t care less.

He now desperately wants to raise the defence budget to 2% (the NATO norm), which is just another proof of his appalling opportunism. He was never interested before.

Rutte is not a statesman. His long premiership mainly concerns the deplorable state of politics, media, education, and the country’s mentality. At the European level, he always pleases the countries and politicians relevant to his next job.

At the European level, he always gives in, also at the expense of Dutch interests (Euro, the appointment of Lagarde, hazardous deals dictatorships, the bizarre and shameful EU-Corona fund (including a gift of 20 billion euro and 20 billion ´loans´(read other gifts) and numerous ´EU-stabilisation funds, ‘ an EU euphemism for illegal bailouts and the illegal ECB policy).

After all, the Netherlands is not just a narco-state with a high level of corruption à la néerlandaise, including (highly corrupted) journalism but the country is not a reliable NATO partner at all.

Srebrenica is one of the many wake-up calls for the international community and a crucial organisation such as NATO: Dutch civil society is in a rapid decline, and the judiciary, bureaucracy, and media are ruled by activists, their networks, opportunism, and hypes. The European Court of Human Rights is an NGO for and by activists, and the Court of Justice European Union is a political institute endorsing the new European brotherhood.
