The Gerhard Marcks House

The museum exhibits modern and contemporary sculpture of both domestic and international renown. It also mounts special exhibitions of classic sculptors such as Moore, Maillol and Giacometti and of younger artists. The museum has established a concept which consciously combines modern art with traditional art, placing the interaction between figure, form and space at the heart of its work. The foundation on which the museum is based was established in 1969 by Gerhard Marcks (1889-1981), one of Germany’s most important 20th century sculptors. 400 sculptures, more than 14,000 drawings and over 1,200 prints form the core of the museum’s current collection.
