The collection “Painting in Normandy”brings together over one hundred paintings. The collection revolves about the representation of Normandy towards the end of the XIXth and beginning of the XXth centuries. Honfleur, Le Havre and Rouen are names of cities that stand as symbols for those moments of intense creation of an emerging modernity that go by such names as impressionism, fauvism and other styles. From Monet, Jongkind, Lebourg Dufy and many others who for over a century endowed Normandy with the emblematic image of the pleasure and art of painting. The collection shows a journey through the Normandy landscap, its beaches, bocages, hills, villages, towns and people.
