Municipal Museum

The Municipal Museum (Stadtmuseum) is today an institution of international reputation with a regional scope on art, history and cultural history. The museum exhibits or ressembles about 30,000 portraits, including drawings, works of graphic art, paintings and photographs, portrait busts and sculptures. Through a partnership with the Bavarian State Library has managed to make about 1,800 of these portraits in the form of an online database available to the public. There are permanent exhibitions and special exhibitions, whoch highlight periods and events of the history from residence of a regional monarch to a cosmopolitan city. This history coincidences to a large extent with the developments in Europe, since Bavaria was one of relevant cultural, political and economic centres of the region.
