Martin Wagner Museum

The museum is one of the biggest university museums of Europa. The painter, sculptor and art agent Martin von Wagner (1777-1858) was one of the main art collectors and connaiseurs of his time and his collection is the fundament of the museum. The collection of ancient art covers the period 3000 BC-500 AD. Greek, Etruscan, Roman, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Iranian are prominently present. The collection of Greek vases have a world wide reputation. The collection of paintings covers German, Dutch, Flemish and Italian masters from the 15-19th centuries. Among the Sculptors are Hans Leonhard Schäufelein, Bartholomäus Spranger, Pieter Claesz, Luca Giordano und Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and Tilman Riemenschneiders. The Graphic collection consists of 11000 drawings and 14.000 graphics, amongst others from Federico Baroccis and Albrecht Dürer.
