Chapter Museum

The Chapter museum (including archive and library) offers a fascinating journey through two thousand years of history, starting with Roman to the first Christian artifacts through the Middle Ages and up to the reign of Napoleon. The museum shows reliquaries made of the finest materials, such as gold, silver, bronze and ivory, liturgical vessels (among them the oldest monstrances in Europe with precious enamel decoration), over 1000 years of sumptuous textiles, manuscripts richly embellished with natural pigments and gold, medieval documents on parchment, etchings, for example about the Thirty Year’s War.
