The museum (Römermuseum Kastell Boiotro) stands on the foundations of the late Roman fort Boiotro. The remains of the fort walls can be seen in the out-door area of the museum. There are pre- and early historical finds from the region, Roman finds documenting the military and civil settlements along the East Rhaetian Danube Limes and late antiquity. The early Middle Ages are represented by funerary finds from row graves. High and late medieval finds from the town centre illustrate the early settlement of Passau.
