Chateau Auvers-sur-Oise

The town is a memorial to Vincent van Gogh, the place where he died in 1890 and where his grave and the grave of his brother Theo can be found. The château shows voyage au temps des impressionists, a trip back to the time of the Impressionists. Visitors are guided past various tableaux, pictures, movies and reconstructions illustrating life in the Impressionist era. There are no impressionist originals, but hundreds of reproductions are interspersed between the tableaux. The town shows locations where Van Gogh painted, lived and died in 1890, including other relevant information about persons, homes and events that took place in that fateful year.
