The Eternal Heroes from the Past

The Onassis Cultural Center in New York, one of the hidden treasures of this great city, pays attention to classical heroes and their ongoing presence in modern society. The exhibition, starting from October 2010, pays in particular attention to Herakles, Odysseus, Achilles, Helen as examples of epic heroes and heroines who continue to inspire modern culture. Using ancient Greek culture as a point of origin, the exhibition will explore the inherent human need for heroes and make it relevant to today’s society. Gaining a better understanding of the ancient Greek alive with heroes and heroines will make us reflect on our own attitudes toward heroism and who the heroes are in our personal lives and why.
