The Advent of the Gothic: The Magdeburg Cathedral.

The Middle Ages return to the Kulturhistorisches Museum Magdeburg in an exhibition running from 31 August to 6 December 2009. This major exhibition of fascinating artefacts from the early thirteenth century celebrates the 800th anniversary of Magdeburg Cathedral.The exhibition will present some 400 valuable objects from Germany, Europe and the United States, transforming the Kulturhistorisches Museum Magdeburg into a temporary treasure house. Precious gold artefacts, rare manuscripts and beautiful sculptures will spotlight the new era’s advent in the early thirteenth century, giving visitors an impressive picture of the art, culture and history of the Late Hohenstaufen Period. The exhibition will be accompanied by an extensive programme including guided tours, lectures and events. Children and young people will be able to experience the Middle Ages at first hand when they immerse themselves in the highly successful museum city of Megedeborch now in its eleventh year.
